Political Cartoon Rhetoric

http://politicalhumor.about.com/od/politicalcartoons/ig/Political-Cartoons/DC-Earthquake.htm

This cartoon comes out just after a minor earthquake shook the east coast, including the nation's capital. In this image, Daniel Kurtzman depicts the capital building split in half with crumbled debris surrounding. The man in the suit makes a sarcastic and funny remark that this destruction was not a result from the earthquake, but rather looked like this before the natural disaster occured. Uncle Sam is depicted to have fallen between the cracks. We know it is him because his hat is still remaining. I believe the artist is trying to relay the message that the left and right sides of government have destroyed the government through disputes and every day conflict. Uncle Sam, an icon for the nations military, has faltered because of the adverse relations between both sides of government. His opinion is clear and he wants his audience what recent political relations has done to our nations government.
